Things about me you may not know...
I am Mrs. Kelly Katayama-Johnson. Most people know me as "Mrs.K.J.". I am from Norwalk, CA and graduated from Norwalk High School. I received a Bachelors Degree in Communications from California State University at Long Beach. I earned my teaching credential and Masters Degree of Science in Education from National University, San Diego, CA. I have been working in the school district since 1989. I have been teaching in the Magnet program since it's inception in 2011. I cannot believe how exciting education has become for our students. As a life long learner, I need families to understand that education is changing for the better. Change is very scary, but exciting. As our iPad 1:1 program grows, it will allows enhanced learning in the classroom and at home. My teaching goal is to provide an opportunity to critically think and problem solve in the classroom while using multiple tools of technology. There are going to be days when things don't work right and other days when learning in my class and your home will go beyond our wildest dreams. Remember to be patient, be willing to "fail", get frustrated, and preserve through problems in order to succeed. Learning will happen as long as you are committed.
On a personal note, I have been married since 1996. I have two boys; Collin and Tyler. When I'm not planning for school or taking care of my family, I enjoy many other activities. Some of my favorite activities are watching television shows like "Rush Hour" and "The Amazing Race", trying new food restaurants, traveling to Hawaii, drinking "Starbucks" with my friends, and going to Disneyland with my family.
